The Best Santa Claus Book there is.

I grew up with the Santa Claus book and I love it. How great that it is back in print! The illustrations by Steve Songer are simply beautiful. (Don't be fooled, "Alden Perkes" in a persona created to represent a whole team of people (check the library of congress page.))
The format of short chapters dealing with everything from Santa's wife to why Santa lives so long makes it possible to read one or two chapters aloud to your children every day of December. This is a fun way to get your kids excited about Santa Claus.
Some of my favorite chapters are the invention of wrapping paper, how Rudolph got a red nose, and, of course, the Gnuff!

Stands the test of time

I have snippets of memories of flipping through a Santa book when I was younger. I remember it being my go-to source to answer any questions I might have, and I read bits and pieces every Christmas, but could never remember what it was called to track down a copy for my own kids to enjoy. As soon as I saw the cover, I knew this was it! I love this book! What's more, it stands the test of time. I gave a copy to my kids last night and we read the first two sections. They're hooked, and I love it! It keeps the magic of Santa of alive for them, and in our house, as long you believe, he will always be real ;)

This book is wonderful for the in between Santa believers. It goes into great detail about everything Santa. Bake Santa's favorite cookie recipe from the book, they are wonderful! Find out all the information about what the raindeer all like about their annual trip. Depending on your Child, this is a read aloud or a great book for reading themselves.

The book is more about use cases, case studies and the methodology called Ignite. The book has many voices, all conveying the same messages and tends to be repetitive at times.
The book seems to be targeted towards Executives who can gain value from the use cases, but from an design and implementation perspective, there is nothing related to Enterprise out here. The Ignite methodology seems more of a SOA based project plan with device integration.
Apart from various key note contributions, which you can find online, unfortunately there is nothing interesting about the book.

It starts from very basic concept and builds on real life example including explaining the use cases where Internet Of Things will bring in disruption. How to be successful in the internet of things

The internet of things (IoT) offers a lot of opportunities for enterprises to support existing business models and to create entirely new business models. However, it is not easy to gain an understanding of this broad topic, and to develop and implement IoT strategies for the own enterprise. This book provides both a good overview and detailed explanations of methods and technologies required for successful IoT initiatives.

Hence, it will be valuable for many groups of readers, such as newcomers to the IoT, senior managers, project leads, and system architects. Newcomers will especially be interested in the first part of the book which introduces the basics and presents many case studies from areas, such as energy, industry, automotive, and smart cities.

In the second part, the authors' IoT methodology "Ignite" is presented. It consist of two phases: strategy and solution delivery. While the strategy phase will be interesting for managers, the comprehensive explanation of the solution delivery phase are mainly relevant for project leaders and system architects. This phase is about planning and implementation of IoT projects, and the operation of the developed solution. In practice, this is often a challenge due to the different cultures of IT people and engineers.

The third part describes the application of the Ignite methodology in a case study (management of industrial power tools).

The book can be clearly recommended to anyone who is seriously interested in how to be successful in the internet of things.

Color photos very helpful

All of the new material and especially the color photos make this book a must-have for a fire investigator. So much detail is missed with black and white photos, comparing this edition with earlier versions is like night and day.

Good info.

As I write a review for yet another NFPA guide, they will all be the same. As I stated a NFPA guide is not a book, it's a guide. NFPA guides are written to look up information, unlike a book in which you read by chapter. Now that said, you can read it like a book, it just takes awhile to read. If you are going to sit for any length of time to read it, have strong coffee!

About the Author
Donald F. Kettl is Dean of the School of Public Policy at the University of Maryland and a nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. Prior to his appointment, he was the Robert A. Fox Leadership Professor at the University of Pennsylvania and Professor of Political Science. Kettl is the author of numerous books, including The Next Government of the United States: Why Our Institutions Fail Us and How to Fix Them, The Global Public Management Revolution, and Leadership at the Fed. Kettl has twice won the Louis Brownlow Award for the best book in public administration, for The Transformation of Governance: Public Administration for Twenty-first Century America in 2003 and System under Stress: Homeland Security and American Politics in 2005. In 2008, he was awarded the John Gaus Award of the American Political Science Association for lifetime contributions to the scholarship in the joint tradition of political science and public administration. Kettl has consulted broadly for government organizations and is a regular columnist for Governing magazine.

Perfect condition, very lively read.

I needed this book for a class for my Political Science major. I ordered it 3/4 of the way through the semester and during the Thanksgiving break, too. It arrived before I went back to class and was in pristine condition. I applaud the speedy delivery Amazon did, as always. The book was a lot more interesting than what I thought it would be, obviously touching up on current events and relating practical political methods of bureaucracy easily. It can be a touchy book at times if you were personally affected by such disasters as Hurricane Katrina and 9/11 (as all of us are), but I definitely recommend it. If you need this for a class, don't worry. It won't put you to sleep. (:

About the Author

T. Agami Reddy is SRP Professor of Energy and Environment at Arizona State University with joint faculty appointments with the Design School and the School of Sustainable Engineering and the Built Environment. During his 30 year career, he has also held faculty and research positions at Drexel University, Texas A&M University and Princeton University. He teaches and does research in the areas of sustainable energy systems (green buildings, HVAC&R, solar and resiliency/sustainability) and building energy data analytics. He is the author of two textbooks and has close to 200 refereed journal and conference papers, and several book chapters and technical research reports. He is a licensed mechanical engineer and Fellow of both ASME and ASHRAE. He received the ASHRAE Distinguished Service Award in 2008, and was the recipient of the 2014 Yellott Award from the ASME Solar Energy Division.

Jan F. Kreider has served as a professor of engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder, and is a founding director of its Joint Center for Energy Management. He received his BSME degree (magna cum laude) from Case Western Reserve University, and his postgraduate degrees from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Dr. Kreider is the author of numerous college textbooks and more than 200 technical articles and reports, and has managed numerous building systems research projects. He is a fellow of the ASME, an active member of ASHRAE, and a winner of ASHRAE’s E.K. Campbell Award for excellence in building systems education. He is also the president of a consulting company specializing in energy system design and analysis.

Peter Curtiss received his BSCE degree from Princeton University, and his advanced degrees from the University of Colorado at Boulder. He has served as an adjunct professor, and has worked as an engineering consultant. Dr. Curtiss has he author of over 40 technical journal articles, on subjects ranging from neural network modeling and control of building systems to solar radiation measurement. He has worked at research institutes in Israel, Portugal, and France as well as at a number of private engineering firms.

Ari Rable has served as a research scientist at the Centre d’Energetique of the l’Ecole de Mines in Paris, as well as research professor at the University of Colorado. He received his PhD in Physics from the University of California at Berkeley, and has worked at the Argonne National Laboratory, the Solar Energy Research Institute, and the Center for Energy and Environmental Studies at Princeton University. Dr. Rable is the author of more than 50 journal articles, numerous technical reports, and holds 10 patents. He is a member of the American Physical Society and ASHRAE.
