Earth's Children - A book for us all

I loved every moment. I had to take my time with this, because it was quite thought-provoking. Ms. Auel's series made you feel like you were there - with the characters. I was cheering them on through all of their adventures, and every time they ran into danger, I was holding my breath. I loved every one of the books, and she remained true to the story, all the way from the first page of the first book to the last page of the last book. I would read them again, and I am sure I will through the years. It is a set of books that I have every intention of keeping, just so I can have that opportunity, in fact. Well done, Jean Auel, well done.

I read the very first book many years ago when it first came out. It remains to this day one of my favorites. I waited for years and years for the last book (it is my understanding that there will be no more) and this last book was the only one where I was disappointed in. Like so many others, I think it was too "mystic" and did not have anything about finding her son, Durc, or meeting up with the Clan people again; something we desperately wanted to see/know more about. It was all over the place and I found myself bored, and skipping pages. But it is the only book I felt that way about. Ive let numerous people read the first book and 6 times, it was never returned. Ive purchased it over and over again because I want to keep one. The writer, Jean, lived in my home town in Oregon and I cant say enough good things about her. The amount of thought and research that went into these books are astronomical. We all know that one woman (Ayla) is not able to figure out all the "mysteries' in life by herself but the writer makes it seem believable. Ive read the books at least 10 times each. That's when you know its a fabulous book. The book is so detailed that you shouldn't be surprised when you come away with something you either didn't remember or catch the first time around. Read the books in order if you can.... I strongly suggest that you ALWAYS read the first (Clan of the Cave Bear) one because everything builds on this. And even though she does a great job catching you up in the other books, everything is better knowing why and how something occurred. Enjoy ! Enjoy ! Enjoy !

I loved all six books I have read them at least 16 times over the 31 years that they were out thank you Gene though forgiving me an adventure with Ayla that I totally enjoyed. I hope for some reason that you were right book 7. I know many of your fans wish to read more about Ayla and her family.
