About the Author

Dr Frank Crundwell BSc (Financial Maths), PhD (Chem. Eng.), has experience in academia (University of California, Berkeley; University of Cape Town; University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg), in technology development (BHP Billington) and corporate venture capital, and currently runs his own company (CM Solutions). He has been in involved in due diligence work, he has developed the business case for investment decisions, and he has patented and licensed inventions. He has also presented courses on Real Options Analysis and Finance for Professional Engineers for professionals.

Superb textbook and reference guide for project finance professionals

This textbook and reference guide is by far the best textbook/reference guide I ever saw on capital projects (i.e. project finance, infrastructure finance, etc.) evaluation and risk/return decision-making analysis. The book is broken out into four major parts:

1. Foundations (accounting principles, financial statements, proposals for capital projects, project cash flows, estimation of capital expenditure, etc.)
2. Evaluation (TVM, Discounted CF techniques, inflation, taxation, discount rate, decision analysis, sensitivity analysis, scenario analysis, etc.)
3. Risk Assessment (risk and return, CAPM, CoD, CoE, WACC, Monte-Carlo simulation, real options analysis, etc.)
4. Financing (financial markets, types of loans, project finance, public-private partnerships, etc.)

The best thing about this book is not only the book is extremely well-designed and well-written, not only it is comprehensive and filled with truly useful information but also it contains numerous case studies WITH SOLUTIONS; furthermore, each chapter has multiple review questions / problems WITH SOLUTIONS.

In other words, this superb all-encompassing book is perfect for self-study.

I am not sure why the author thought this book's target audience is engineers - I believe every type of professionals working on capital projects, including financial professionals, engineers, lawyers and government officials would greatly benefit from this book.

Frank has managed something extraordinary in writing this book, he has taken the inner workings of a critical industry and made them easily understandable to Engineers. The clarity gained from reading and referring to this book has ensured the work I do as an engineer is more relevant, effective and fulfilling!

Eric Brown went to Germany in 1939 on an exchange course, and his first experience of the war came when the Gestapo arrested him, not knowing he was an RAF pilot. The rest is history. He is the only man alive to have flown every major and most minor combat aircraft of the Second World War (as well as all the early jets), and has been interviewed by the top Nazis. While testing the Nazi jets in war-stricken Germany, he interviewed (among others) Hermann Goering and Hanna Reitsch. About the Author
Eric Brown is in the GUINNESS BOOK OF RECORDS for having flown more aircraft types (487) than any other pilot in history. His record is unlikely ever to be broken. Captain Brown CBE, DSC, AFC, KCVSA, RN, became a test pilot during the Second World War and commanded the RAE Aerodynamics Flight at Farnborough. He played a key role in the design of an entire generation of aircraft. No other man could have claimed to have interrogated several senior Nazis, flown their jet aircraft or tested so many experimental machines. The Royal Navy's most decorated pilot, Captain Eric Brown died in 2016 at the age of 97.

The incredible life of Captain Eric Brown

In this book, Captain Brown is sitting next to you and telling you the incredible story of his life. While his writing style will probably not win him any prize (being the most decorated FAA pilot in history he certainly doesn't need any!), the book is written in an easy to follow conversational style. It is just amazing how flying 8 different aircraft (mostly prototypes) in one day can be part of your daily routine, and that's what Captain Brown did for many years. To say he is a walking encyclopedia of aircraft in the 1939-1970 period would be an understatement, and he has the distinction of being one of the very few who have flown almost all mayor types in WWII of any air force - that is not only UK, but also US, Germany, Italy, Japan...

In just shy of 300 pages you cannot go into every detail when presenting a lifespan of interesting adventures, so this book is a good introduction into the human being behind all the records, and puts many things into perspective. It certainly also serves as a good companion to Captain Browns many other books (if you can find them), which are usually devoted to more delimited topics and thus enter into much more detail.

There are also a few very interesting pictures, correctly captioned and wonderfully accompanying the text. Regarding the binding (see other reviews), the book is rather heavy for its small size, and the binding is a bit narrow, but nothing that will get in the way of an extraordinary reading experience. You would probably need quite some harsh treatment to get a few pages loose, so if you open the book and pages do fall out, then you should return it!

I seldom recommend any book as a "must have", but this one is one of these that any aircraft enthusiast simply cannot miss - highly recommended.

A fascinating read!

If you are in aviation, have been in aviation or have an interest in aviation, this is a fascinating read. It helps to understand some aviation terms to fully enjoy the book and it's told in event by event form rather than story form. Eric Brown has flown more types of aircraft and made more carrier landings than anyone and the man is still alive. After you read his flying adventures you'll wonder how he lived through them. His interviews of captured German staff is eye opening and gives a great insight into their political beliefs and loyalty to their leaders. The pictures of unusual WW II aircraft alone are worth the purchase of the book. It's a little pricey for a paperback but it's a book you'll likely want to keep for reference. I'm a former career pilot and picked up a lot of previously unknown, to me, aviation history. After reading the book I believe that Eric Brown is likely the most talented and luckiest pilot to ever live. And he lived at precisely the right time and place(s) to experience the age of aviation.

Great story, poor book binding!

This is a wonderful story by someone is isn't well known in the US. Winkle Brown flew more different types of aircraft than anyone in history. And the types he flew were incredible. Almost all of the WW2 fighters from each of the combatants. Including early jets and the German ME-163 rocket fighter. He was selected to fly the Miles supersonic research aircraft, which probably would have beaten the US X-1 through the sound barrier had it not been cancelled. His evaluations of these aircraft are of particular value, as he could compare each's performance with their contemporaries. What a wealth of information!

Unfortunately, I couldn't give this review 5 stars because the book binding is so bad. My first copy came apart within the first few readings and I have been VERY careful with the second. It looks like the binder just didn't use the right type, or amount of glue.

There is no shortage of tattoo books coming out these days.I liked this one because it dealt with old school flash which is my preference.A lot of interesting information and well illustrated.Quite a bit on George Burchett and his work which I found especially good.

Much More Than Expected - Books Like This Are A Must Have

This is a great book. It's that simple. If you're at all interested in classic or vintage tattoos then let this be your first book on the subject, or if you have other tattoo topic books, then you need to add this to that collection.

I was interested in a book on old school or vintage tattoos. My main purpose was to learn a little bit more about Sailor Jerry Collins and his influences. I thought maybe there would be some other interesting tidbits of information on the history of what we now consider "vintage tattoos" and maybe some cool pictures - what I got was an amazing surprise.

There is so much fantastic and detailed information - none of it boring. The book takes you on an incredible journey through time, style, artists and even equipment.

Even if you don't know how to read, the pictures and old flash of these vintage tattoos are worth the price of admission ... ok, the price of the book, but you get the point.

Whether you're looking for tattoo ideas, a tattoo history lesson or want to have a unique perspective on vintage tattoos - this is a must add to your bookshelf.

The Definitive Book on Prospecting for the Financial Advisor

Nick Murray takes on the #1 issue that advisors struggle with in their attempt to build a financial services practice - prospecting. Forty three years of experience are distilled into a very readable 209 pages that will leave you wanting to get out there and fight for your career. Mr. Murray makes it clear that prospecting is really about defeating the fear of prospecting. To this end, in part one of the book he sets a foundation for prospecting with what we as advisors believe. The second part of his book deals with behavior. How we respond to "no" is vital to an advisor's long-term ability to prospect effectively. There is no magic pill, but there are definite approaches we can take to free us from the power of rejection.

This book includes some great scripts that will help an advisor find his/her voice in speaking to complete strangers about the most important financial decision in their life, and not sound like a corny used car salesman. I particularly Mr. Murray's approach to "the question behind the question." For me, that was worth the purchase price on it's own. Finally, I found several techniques that I can employ immediately in my practice, such as what to say at the end of every "failed" interview. That said, this is not a book of techniques but of profound wisdom about the science and art of prospecting in 2011.

I love this book! I just finished it and I am reading it again! This book is a must for any one who is in the acquiring clients mode. It is way cheaper than hiring a coach. If you are the type of person who beats him or her self up when you don't get a client, this book is for you.

About the Author
Alan Revere holds a unique position in the jewelry community, with one foot firmly planted as a master goldsmith and award-winning designer and the other as one of the country s most prominent jewelry educators. After earning degrees in both psychology and sculpture, Revere s passion led him to Germany, where he trained under some of the 20th century s most celebrated goldsmiths and designers. Returning to California with skills rarely taught in the United States, Mr. Revere was asked to share what he had learned with other jewelers and students. In 1979, he founded the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts in San Francisco, now one of the country s foremost jewelry training programs. Alan Revere is past president of the American Jewelry Design Council and founder of the Contemporary Jewelry Design Group. In addition to designing and selling thousands of pieces of jewelry, Mr. Revere has created instructional books, articles and videos for jewelry makers. Fantastic Book

I am now training my son to carry on our family business and I purchased the book to assist with his training. It is by far the most organized and best book available on how to make fine jewelry. fabulous examples of making jewelry from metal stock.

If you are interested in making jewelry from sheet metal, wire, and bar stock (as opposed to casting) you will love this book. It has the clearest set of instructions and illustrations that I have seen and I have read numerous titles. The examples are interesting, illustrative of techniques, and varied. If you are new to jewelry fabrication this is a "'must have" book that will answer many of your questions.

Beautiful book, wonderfully illustrated and written

The illustrations and steps are very detailed. If you know the basic jewelry techniques you should be able to follow the steps to create some beautiful pieces and you'll learn a lot along the way from a master. I'm a beginner, yet I've already completed the earrings. It was a great lesson in sawing and did much to improve my confidence and skill.
