About the Author
Tom Dokken has more than 30 years of professional retriever training experience. He owns Dokken's Oak Ridge Kennels, which is the largest training kennel in the northern United States. He also founded Dokken's Dog Supply and invented the Dokken Dead Fowl Trainer. Having appeared in hundreds of magazine articles and numerous television programs, he's easily the most recognized and respected retriever trainer in America.

Great guide to traing your young dog.

I had not revisited training let alone advanced training in fifty years.
Retreiver training as much as everything else in the last half century, has made remarkable changes
In a most positive reward environment.
Well explained, well photographed, and easily followed.
Certainly I will recommend the book to friends training their Golden Retreivers and Labradores.

Mostly Pictures

I like to have pictures to help illustrate different concepts, but this book is made up of mostly pictures.I feel a little disappointed as I really loved his first book.

Not really for advanced retriever training

The topics covered in this book are at about the leve of an intermediate level retriever and not very advanced.
Chapter 1: Equipment Chapter2:Obedience/Force Fetch Chapter3:Lining Drills Chapter4: First Blind Retrieve
Chapter5: Marking, Honoring, and Waterfowl Skills, Chapter 6: Multiple Marks Chapter7: Upland Skills
Chapter 8: Safety Tips
The books is at a level I would expect for intermediate dogs such as senior hunter in AKC hunt tests, intermediate
in NAHRA, or seasoned in HRC tests.
For advanced retriever training, I recommend Evan Graham's Smartwork series or Mike Lardy's Total Retriever Training.
Do a youtube search for Evan Graham or Mark Lardy. They cover in detail many advanced concepts not covered in this book.
